H E L L O !

My name is Kayla. I was born and raised in central California. I grew up with three sisters in a very rural area, but if it taught me anything it’s the importance of being outside and learning to trust my imagination. My mom loved music and always had it blasting throughout the house. My dad was an avid athlete who brought my sisters along on all of his adventures. My three sisters were there to push me to be the best big sister I could be and to set an example.

I have always found nature and exercise to be an outlet for me. I was constantly playing sports in my youth. Starting with softball, volleyball and basketball at the core, but really falling in love with snowboarding, cycling and yoga in my early twenties. I played volleyball in college, and it was the first time that I had the chance to see the how intertwined design and athletics could be. It was then that I started to see my own desire to be apart of the industries that fueled me, not just as an athlete but to participate in a way that was creative.

I found my way to the design program at San Jose State and graduated with a BFA in graphic design. Somewhere in the middle of design and athletics is where I feel the most myself as a human and creative. It’s the blend between those two worlds that designers have a lot of potential for progress. It’s a space that I am incredibly passionate about and feel like I can make the most impact.
